ROCKLIN, Calif. – Junior Maria McDougall posted a "double bagel" victory to lead five singles wins as St. Francis snared a 7-2 road win at Rocklin in a rescheduled Sierra Foothill League girls' tennis dual match Monday. The meeting was originally scheduled for October 2 but postponed due to inclement weather on that date.
The Troubadours improve to 8-5 for the year with a 7-5 league record. The Thunder slips to 2-15 with an 0-11 SFL mark.
McDougall swept Amrita Chopra, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1 singles as one of five straight-set SF singles victories. Sophomore Sandra Wallace (6-2, 6-0) and junior Sarah Ramos-Lasso (6-1, 6-2) breezed through their respective wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, with sophomore Lena Mundhenk posting a 6-1, 6-4 sweep at No. 5. Senior Sophia Troppmann had the most competitive of the five Troubie singles triumphs, going to a 7-5 tiebreaker to win the first set before taking down the second by a 6-3 score.
In doubles, St. Francis picked up wins at No. 1 and No. 3, also in straight sets. Isabella Bollinger and Nura Fananapazir took down Rocklin's Claire Johanson and Talia Gridley, 2 and 3; while Ananya Saini and Savannah Story dispatched the Thunder's Justine Lopez/Fucheng Zhou pairing in a more tightly battled 7-6, 7-5 thriller.
The Troubadours return to action in less than 24 hours at home against Oak Ridge. The team will honor its five seniors – Troppmann, Saini, Ava Ensberg, Kat Gensler and Laila Shamshad – as part of the regular season home finale. The match begins at 4 p.m. at Rollingwood YMCA.
