SF tennis stays unbeaten after win at Folsom

FOLSOM, Calif. – Junior Maria McDougall, sophomore Sandra Wallace and sophomore Lena Mundhenk each captured singles wins in straight sets as St. Francis defeated Folsom, 6-3, in Sierra Foothill League girls' tennis dual action Tuesday night. The Troubadours improve to 3-0 for the season, and 2-0 in SFL play.

McDougall narrowly missed a "double-bagel" win over Bulldog junior Zhiming Qi, taking down the No. 1 singles matchup by scores of 6-1, 6-0. Wallace swept freshman Jayden Hill, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 2 singles. Mundhenk also claimed a sweep at No. 5 singles, dispatching Lila Dance, 6-2, 6-1. Mundhenk was later awarded her team's "Dog Chain" award for heart and hustle in the match.

Junior Sarah Ramos-Lasso won a wild split-set match at No. 3 singles, storming to a 6-2 victory in the opening set only to drop a 6-1 decision in the second to force the one-game tiebreaker, which she won, 10-6.

Meanwhile, two Troubie doubles tandems also went to extended tiebreakers to pick up key points in the team scoring. Ava Ensberg and Stella Lucchetti traded 6-3 sets with Folsom's Aahana Singh and Tiara Ganguly, before coming away with an 11-9 victory in that rubber set. In an even longer match, junior Savannah Story made her SF varsity debut by teaming with Ananya Saini at No. 3 doubles. They exchanged 6-4 frames with Alyssa Schuster and Yihan Duan, then battled to a 12-10 triumph in that one-game tiebreaker.

St. Francis returns to action on Thursday for a home match against Granite Bay. Note: this dual meeting was originally scheduled as a road visit until the two teams swapped home-and-home dates. Instead, the Sept. 11 SF-GB match takes place at Rollingwood YMCA while the October 9 meeting will run at Johnson Ranch Racquet Club in Roseville.
