FOLSOM, Calif. – Junior Maria McDougall and sophomore Sandra Wallace won their respective singles matches in straight sets, but Oak Ridge claimed the other four singles matchups and swept all three doubles to defeat St. Francis, 7-2, in a Sac-Joaquin Section Division I semifinal at Broadstone Sports Club Monday night.
The fifth-seeded Troubadours close out their season at 10-8, having advanced to the SJS final four for a third straight year. The top-seeded Trojans claim their 21st straight win to remain undefeated at 21-0.
McDougall, just three days removed from finishing as the section's D-I runner-up, swept Trojan freshman Alexa Osen, 7-5, 6-4. Wallace, who also reached the SJS individual semifinal on Friday, claimed a 6-4, 6-3 victory against junior Ilayda Koker at No. 2 singles. However, OR won singles lines 3 through 6, all in straight sets. The Trojans also swept each of the three doubles matches to complete their win.
Sophomore Lena Mundhenk provided the Troubies' closest challenge for an additional team point, taking Joelle Nguyen to a 6-4 first set before dropping the second by a 6-3 score.
St. Francis was the second-highest remaining seed of the Division I final four, as No. 7 Mountain House had upset No. 2 Woodcreek and No. 6 McClatchy got past No. 3 Granite Bay on the opposite half of the bracket.
McDougall finished the year with a 16-1 record at No. 1 singles, a record that does not include five total wins at the Sierra Foothill League and SJS individual singles championships. Wallace went 14-1 for the year at No. 2 doubles, with an additional victory at No. 1 singles and four total wins at the league and section tourneys raising her total record to 19-2.
