St. Francis tennis, cross country earn academic nods

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis girls' tennis captured the 2022 Sac-Joaquin Section Academic Team Championship, the organization announced Tuesday afternoon. The Troubadours compiled a 3.88 overall grade-point average to earn the honor.

Additionally, the Troubadours' cross country team was third among the section's academic team performers, behind only Ripon Christian (3.98) and John Adams (3.96).

The SJS bestows up to five academic team awards for each sport, boys and girls, for the fall, winter and spring seasons. The honors are based on a standard 4.0-scale GPA for that grading period, unweighted (i.e. no extra points for AP or honors courses) and considering all athletes on a roster regardless of playing time. St. Francis joined Atwater (3.88) and Inderkum (3.82) among teams earning the section's academic accolades for girls' tennis.

St. Francis tennis is the first Troubie program to finish in the top five since soccer in 2019-20. There were no such awards in 2020-21 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Troubie tennis finished in a tie for third in the Delta League, then advanced into the second round of the CIF-SJS Division I playoffs. Additionally, the tandem of Aniyus Pierre and Chloe Garcia captured the Delta League doubles championship.
