ELK GROVE, Calif. – St. Francis claimed all three doubles wins in straight sets while nabbing one dominating singles victory, but ultimately lost a split-set singles match in the darkness to fall, 5-4, to Pleasant Grove in a Delta League girls' tennis dual match Tuesday afternoon.
The Troubadours slip to 8-4 for the year, and 6-4 in conference matches. The Eagles improve to 11-1 overall and move into a tie for first place with Davis atop the Delta League standings.
The No. 1 doubles pairing of Chloe Garcia and Anna Dinh prevailed by scores of 6-2, 6-3, matching that of No. 3 doubles line Arini Tandon and Caroline Niethammer. Meanwhile, the No. 2 doubles team of Juliette Irwin and Arden Garcia defeated Keira Chi and Angela Yang, 6-2, 6-0.
On the singles side, senior Hayley Labia breezed past Mischa Mikami, 6-1, 6-1. However, PG swept its No. 1 and Nos. 4-6 singles matches, while Jeannie Zhang outlasted Norah Zhou at No. 2 singles. The two players traded 7-5 sets, before Zhang pulled away to 6-2 in a third set that concluded as the early-autumn sunlight disappeared. Zhang improves to 8-0 in that No. 2 slot for the Eagles.
St. Francis returns to action in a rare Wednesday match, heading to Sheldon for a 3:45 p.m. dual. The match was previously scheduled for Thursday, but was moved up by a day to accommodate the Troubies' visit to the Menlo School for a weekend tournament.
