ELK GROVE, Calif. – St. Francis won all eight contested matches in straight sets, including three double-bagel victories, to blank Sheldon by a team score of 9-0 in the team's final Delta League road dual of the season.
The win improves the Troubadours' overall record to 9-4 and conference mark to 7-4, effectively clinching one of the four berths to the Sac-Joaquin Section postseason.
Anna Dinh defeated Rachel Le at No. 3 singles and Madeline Welch shut out Trish Ho at the No. 5 line for matching 6-0, 6-0 victories. The No. 1 doubles tandem of Arden Garcia and Laila Shamshad also won, 6-0, 6-0. The only other SF doubles team, Ava Ensberg and Claire Allaye-Chan, came just one game from yet another double-bagel win. They swept Zayna Abbough and Emmelia Lileley, 6-0, in the first set before claiming the second by a 6-1 final.
Juliette Irwin and Sophia Troppman surrendered just two games in their respective wins at No. 2 and No. 4 singles, while Chloe Garcia snared a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles against Angela Le.
St. Francis' 7-4 league record sits ahead of fourth-place Franklin (4-5) but behind leaders Davis and Pleasant Grove, each with 9-1 marks.
The Troubies head to the Bay Area for the two-day Golden State Tennis Classic, hosted by the Menlo School. They open with Los Altos on Friday at 11 a.m., then will face either Burlingame or Miramonte at 3 p.m. Other schools in the bracket comprise Gunn, St. Francis of Mountain View, Monte Vista, Monta Vista, Campolindo, Santa Barbara, Menlo-Atherton, Palo Alto, Amador Valley, Castilleja, Cupertino, plus the host Knights.
