STOCKTON, Calif. – St. Francis won all six singles and all three doubles matches in straight sets – including four by "double bagel" scores of 6-0, 6-0 – to complete a 9-0 shutout over Modesto to open the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I girls' tennis team championship bracket at Rollingwood YMCA Monday.
The fifth-seeded Troubadours improve to 10-7 in dual play.
Freshman Alexandra Wallace, senior Tatum Walbeck and senior Anna Dinh each swept their Panther counterparts by such 6-0, 6-0 scores at Nos. 1 through 3 singles, respectively. The No. 2 doubles tandem of senior Arden Garcia and freshman Lena Mundhenk also picked up a double-bagel victory.
Wallace's win also marked her first appearance at line 1 for singles, as sophomore Maria McDougall was granted a day off in anticipation of her SJS Individual Championships appearance later in the week.
The Troubies overall win was so swift that the last match on the court – Ana Stamatis' 6-2, 6-0 win over Ciclali Barocio at No. 6 singles – took a little more than an hour to complete. Sophia Troppmann and Sarah Ramos-Lasso prevailed in their No. 4 and 5 singles matches with matching scores of 6-1, 6-0.
On the doubles courts, senior Litzy Alengaden and junior Ava Ensberg dispatched Kate De La Rosa and Annette Micheletti by scores of 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1; while the all-frosh duo of Nura Fananapazir and Ava Dezham picked up a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 3. Overall, the Troubies won their nine matches by a combined score of 108-11.
St. Francis is one of six teams from the Sierra Foothill League in the SJS D-I bracket. The Troubies advance to the quarterfinal for a 2 p.m. matchup at Del Oro on Wednesday. They split their regular-season matches with the Golden Eagles by 6-3, 6-3 scores, although the October 17 Troubie win featured a lineup that most closely resembles the current team ladder.
