GOLD RIVER, Calif. – Sophomore Maria McDougall swept Christi Tolson by scores of 7-5, 6-2 for her team's lone win, as St. Francis fell by an 8-1 final to league front-runner Granite Bay in Sierra Foothill League girls' dual tennis action at Gold River Sports Club Thursday.
The Troubadours even their record to 6-6 overall and 4-6 in SFL play. The Grizzlies remain atop the league standings at 9-1, a win ahead of Davis and two in front of Del Oro.
McDougall has now won five straight matches, all in straight sets, to improve to 11-1 for the season. While she was the only SF player to record a win, Sarah Ramos-Lasso and the tandem of Litzy Alengaden and Ava Ensberg picked up 6-1 first-set wins at No. 6 singles and No. 1 doubles, respectively. However, their GB opponents rolled to wins in both the second set and the one-game tiebreaker.
Thursday's dual match proved to be a logistical rollercoaster for both teams. With no home courts this season, Granite Bay originally agreed to travel to St. Francis' home facility of Rollingwood YMCA – only to host the match at the sizable Gold River Sports Club instead.
The Troubadours return to action for back-to-back home matches against Whitney and Del Oro on Tuesday and Thursday. Both matches begin at 4 p.m. at Rollingwood.
