FAIR OAKS, Calif. – Sophomore Maria McDougall posted a straight-set, 6-1, 6-2 win over freshman Christi Tolson at No. 1 singles, but that ended up as the lone St. Francis win in an 8-1 setback to Granite Bay in a Sierra Foothill League girls' tennis dual match at Rollingwood YMCA Thursday.

The Troubadours slip to 2-3 for the year and 0-3 in SFL play. The Grizzlies, the defending league champion and the No. 1 seed in last year's Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs, improve to 3-0 in the league standings.

While McDougall picked up the lone individual victories, several matches proved competitive for St. Francis, including the No. 5 singles before Troubie sophomore Sarah Ramos-Lasso and Granite Bay sophomore Katie Smith. Smith rolled to a 6-1 first set by Ramos-Lasso rode a key break midway through the second to claim a 6-3 win. Then in the single-game tiebreaker, Ramos-Lasso held a double match point of 9-7 before Smith recovered to score four straight en route to the win.

Troubie senior Arden Garcia battled Lillian Zhou to a 6-4, 6-4 on the No. 6 singles court. The freshman doubles tandem of Nura Fananapazir and Alexandra Wallace – the latter of whom made her SF debut on Tuesday – took GB seniors Ella Wang and Elena Kugley to the brink in the first set before losing 7-5.

St. Francis head coach Matt Brunner also commended the play of senior Tatum Walbeck, who ended up taking on Lila Bromfield at No. 2 singles. The GB senior played No. 1 singles 10 times as a junior last season, sporting an 8-2 overall record. Bromfield and Kugley were the Grizzlies' All-SFL singles honorees in 2023.

The Troubadours return to action on Tuesday for a dual at Whitney.
