FAIR OAKS, Calif. – St. Francis picked up straight-set wins at No. 1 singles, No. 5 singles and No. 3 doubles, but Oak Ridge ultimately prevailed in the two tiebreaker matches as the Troubadours dropped a 6-3 dual match to Oak Ridge in Sierra Foothill League girls' tennis action at Rollingwood YMCA Tuesday.
SF moves to 3-5 for the year with a 1-4 mark in league play. The Trojans improve to 7-8 overall and even their SFL mark to 3-3.
Sophomore Maria McDougall dispatched two-time All-SFL honoree Ria Gandhi, 6-2, 6-0, at the No. 1 singles court to improve to 7-1 for the year. Sophomore Sarah Ramos-Lasso similarly beat Emma Trier at No. 5 singles, 6-4, 6-0, to set her individual season ledger at 6-2. Then the tandem of senior Arden Garcia and freshman Lena Mundhenk for a 6-4, 6-4 sweep at No. 3 doubles.
However, the Troubies and Trojans went the distance at No. 4 singles and No. 1 doubles, with OR capturing the tiebreaker in each. Eleonaore Gustin and Sophia Troppman traded 6-2 sets before Gustin pulled away to a 10-5 victory in the one-game third set. SF's freshman duo Nura Fananapazir and Alexandra Wallace had a parallel journey, coming back from a 6-1 loss in the first set to pick off a 6-1 win in the second, only to have the tiebreaker fall 10-7 in favor of Joelle Nguyen and Lauren Maltby.
The Troubies return to action on Thursday for a 4 p.m. dual match at Davis, which took an 8-1 win from Rocklin on Tuesday.
