FAIR OAKS, Calif. – Sophomore Maria McDougall, senior Anna Dinh and sophomore Sarah Ramos-Lasso each won their respective singles matches in straight sets, Litzy Alengaden and Ava Ensberg led a sweep of the three doubles matches, and two Troubadours made their career debuts as St. Francis defeated former Delta League rival Cosumnes Oaks, 8-1, in a non-league dual girls' tennis match at Rollingwood YMCA Thursday.
The Troubadours improve to 2-0 for the season.
McDougall survived a close 7-5 first set to blank Gabrielle Williams, 6-0, in the second set at No. 1 singles. Dinh breezed to a 6-2 in the opener then held on, 7-5, against Gabriella Rosenthal at No. 3. Finally, Ramos-Lasso picked up a 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 5 singles. Two SF doubles tandems also won in two sets: Nura Fananapazir and Lena Mundhenk at No. 2, Isabelle Bollinger and Anya Bilal at No. 3.
Meanwhile, the Troubies went the distance at both No. 4 and No. 6 singles, plus the Alengaden/Ensberg doubles win over Delaney Fan and Sahana Elan. Sophia Troppmann and Hannah Alshaer traded sets at No. 4, then Troppmann snared the one-game tiebreaker for a 6-3, 4-6, 10-4 win. Dezham, making her first SF appearance on a singles line, enjoyed a wild match against Minnie Ding. Dezham dominated the first set, 6-2, then lost the second, 6-1, before clinging to an 11-9 win in the tiebreaker.
Thursday marked the first time in action for Mundhenk, a freshman; and Bollinger, a former Troubie volleyball player who switched to a different fall net sport as a sophomore.
St. Francis returns to action with road matches at West Park and Rocklin on Tuesday and Thursday next week. Both are scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
