Han-Wei qualifies for CIF NorCal Regional

STOCKTON, Calif. – Senior Arden Han-Wei finished with a 4-over-par 76 to claim a tie for 12th place on the individual leaderboard and an at-large qualification to Monday's CIF NorCal Region Championship, while leading St. Francis to a team total of 450 strokes at the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters girls' golf championship at the Reserve at Spanos Park.

The Troubadours finished in fourth place among the 12-team field, missing a team berth at the regional by a mere two strokes. Granite Bay ran away with the title with a 14-over 374, with Oak Ridge placing second at 417. A third Sierra Foothill League team, Whitney, totaled 448 strokes to nab the third qualifier to NorCals.

The top three teams plus the top four individuals not on one of the qualifying teams advance from the SJS Masters tourney to the regional. El Capitan's Esther Sheu finished as the overall medalist at 2-under 70, Vista Del Lago's Abigail Lin finished third at even-par 72, while Lodi's Kelley O'Keefe took part in a five-way tie at 75 strokes for the No. 3 at-large qualifier. Han-Wei's 76 tied her with GB junior Serene Kim and secured the fourth slot at Berkeley Country Club on Monday.

Han-Wei becomes the first Troubadour golfer to compete at the regional since St. Francis made the cut as a team in 2018.

The Troubie senior began her round on No. 11 in the shotgun start and climbed as high as third on the leaderboard after her birdie-3 on 18, putting her 1-under for the round to that point.
Sophomore Chloe Jun finished just four places but five strokes back of Han-Wei as St. Francis' No. 2 scorer, sinking birdies on the par-4 10th and par-5 11th to end her overall 81. Junior Momina Niazi followed in a tie for 21st place with an 83, highlighted by a birdie-3 on No. 1. Freshman Riya Chima had the Troubies' No. 4 score at 96, with sophomores Mira Smith and Anna Schnack each finishing with identical 114 rounds.

Overall, St. Francis improved by four places and 16 total strokes from its eighth-place 466 one year ago on the same course. Jun improved her 2024 score by four strokes, with Niazi lopping off 17 from her previous visit to the Reserve. Even the 5-6 scores represented a 27-stroke improvement to that part of the lineup at the 2024 Masters tourney. In fact, the 2018 Troubadours finished as the Masters runner-up, yet did so with a 447 score – only three strokes better than the 2025 version.

The NorCal Regional takes place on Monday at Berkeley Country Club in El Cerrito. Live scoring is available via the NCGA Events app. Pairings will also be available on the NCGA (www.ncga.org) and CIF (www.cifstate.org) websites on Thursday. Play will begin from 1 and 10 starting at 7:30 a.m. that morning. The top three teams plus the top nine individuals at-large will advance from the regional to the November 19 state championship at Poppy Hills.
