St. Francis finishes fourth at SFL tourney

ROSEVILLE, Calif. – Senior Arden Han-Wei scored a 6-over-par 78 to lead St. Francis to a fourth-place total of 434 strokes at the second of two Sierra Foothill League girls' golf tournaments for the season, held at Timber Creek Golf Course Tuesday.

The tournament also serves as the qualifier for the Sac-Joaquin Section postseason, with a berth going to the top three teams plus any other scoring 450 or better. Granite Bay easily won the team title with 362 strokes, 35 in front of second-place Oak Ridge. Whitney totaled 430 to edge the Troubadours by four strokes, with Del Oro (450), Folsom (474), Rocklin (485) and Davis (486) accounting for the remainder of the field.

Sophomore Chloe Jun carded an 85 with Riya Chima one stroke back at 86 among the SF finishers. Juniors Momina Niazi (91) and Nydia Garcia (94) rounded out the Troubie team score. Sophomore Mira Smith completed the St. Francis lineup with a 99.

Han-Wei's 78 put her 12th on the overall individual leaderboard. Oak Ridge's Bella Ransibrahmanakul bested all players with a 3-under 69, two strokes ahead of Granite Bay's Hailey Peterson. In fact, the Grizzlies boasted three players at par or better for the round, and claimed second through sixth overall.

Tuesday's tournament also determined the SFL MVP and all-league honorees, although those will not officially be announced until the conclusion of the section's fall championships for all sports.

St. Francis returns to action on Monday for the SJS Division I championship, held at the Ridge in Auburn. The top teams and at-large individuals go from that tourney to the section Masters on November 3.
