SF golf opens with victory against Thunder

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Arden Han-Wei fired an even-par 36 while three other Troubadours finished with fewer than 40 strokes as St. Francis defeated Rocklin, 192-220, in a Sierra Foothill League girls' golf dual match at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex Tuesday.

The Troubadours open their season at 1-0. The season opener was originally scheduled as a tournament at Rocklin's Whitney Oaks home course one week prior, but the multi-team event – ironically dubbed the Thunder Invitational – was halted due to thunder and lightning in the area, then eventually canceled.

Han-Wei stormed to 4-under through six holes but stumbled on No. 7 and 9 to finish at even. She still remained two strokes in front of teammate Momina Niazi and Rocklin's Keerit Basra, who each carded 2-over 38 scores.

Sophomore Chloe Jun and freshman Sophia Gonzales each turned in 3-over-par 39s while Riya Chima carded a 40 to round out the St. Francis scoring finishers. Junior Nydia Garcia completed the lineup with a 44 total.

The Troubadour-Thunder dual was contested on the front nine at Haggin Oaks' Arcade Creek course. The 192 team score is the best by the Troubies since compiling a 191 against Granite Bay almost a full year ago, although that round took place on Arcade Creek's back nine.

St. Francis golf returns to action on Thursday for a road SFL dual at Folsom's home course of Empire Ranch.
