Golf breaks double-century mark but falls to GB

FRESNO, Calif. – Sophomore Chloe Jun drained birdies on the first, second and eighth holes to post a team-leading 35 while senior Arden Han-Wei finished three strokes back with a 2-over-par 38 as St. Francis shot lower than 200 as a team for the fifth time this season, but the Troubadours still fell to Granite Bay, 196-174, in a Sierra Foothill League girls' golf dual match at Haggin Oaks Thursday.

SF begins the second half of the league season at 7-3. The Grizzlies are the league's only undefeated team in dual play at 8-0.

Junior Nydia Garcia (40), freshman Riya Chima (41) and junior Momina Niazi (42) completed the Troubies' point total, with senior Gianna Seghesio carding a 44 to barely miss making the scoring cut.

However, all six Granite Bay entrants finished at 3-over 93 or better, with Serene Kim, Sakura Watanabe and Medha Kotti each firing 3-under 33 scores on the course's Arcade Creek front nine.

The Troubies' total of 196 strokes rates as their best round since scoring 187 and 185 in consecutive matches against Whitney and Del Oro on Sept. 11 and 16, respectively.

St. Francis returns to action on Tuesday for a league dual against Whitney at Turkey Creek Golf Club in Lincoln. The first group tees off at 3 p.m.
