Troubies finish third at SFL tourney

ROSEVILLE, Calif. – Senior Arden Han-Wei fired a 6-over-par 78 to lead St. Francis to a third-place total of 420 strokes at the first Sierra Foothill League girls' golf tournament, held at Timber Creek Golf Course.

Additionally, the event also served as the head-to-head dual matchup with Folsom, with Chloe Jun's 41 leading the Troubadours to a 217-242 victory over the Bulldogs. St. Francis moves to 7-2 in dual play at the season's midpoint.

Han-Wei overcame a relatively tough front nine to sink three birdies on the back to finish at 78 strokes. Jun followed two strokes back at 80 strokes, with Momina Niazi (85), Nydia Garcia (88) and Riya Chima (89) completing the Troubie scoring in the 18-hole tourney. Sophomore Mira Smith rounded out the SF lineup with a 97.

Whitney's Nailah Jackson captured the individual medal with a 3-under 69 total, while Oak Ridge's Bella Ransibrahmanakul carded a 72 as the only other player at par or better. Granite Bay ran away with the team victory at 378 strokes, with all six scores ranging from Medha Kotti's 74 and two players with 77s.

Still, St. Francis was the only other team besides GB with all five scorers under bogey. Oak Ridge finished 30 strokes back from the Grizzlies at 408, the Troubies followed at 420, with Whitney close behind with a 423 total. Del Oro finished fifth (470), Folsom and Rocklin tied for sixth (470), with Davis in eighth (506). For reference, a team total of 450 or better at the October 21 SFL championship earns an automatic berth into the Sac-Joaquin Section postseason.

As for the head-to-head matchup, the teams used the front nine for the dual scoring. Jun tied Folsom's Amelia Karnbanjong with 41 strokes. However, Niazi (42), Chima (43), Han-Wei (44) and Garcia (47) each outscored the next best Bulldog by at least two strokes for a 217 dual total. Smith had a 50 at the turn as the Troubies' sixth player in the lineup.

St. Francis' 420 represents a 17-stroke improvement from its performance at the same tourney and same course one year ago. Finishing third is also one place better than both the center tourney and championship tourney in 2024.

The Troubadours return to action at home against Granite Bay on Thursday. The first tee time at Haggin Oaks' Arcade Creek course is 4 p.m.
