SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sophomore center Kendal Douglas scored a career-high five goals but St. Francis surrendered eight unanswered in the second half in falling to Granite Bay, 18-6, in the varsity girls' portion of a rainy Sierra Foothill League water polo quadrupleheader Monday night at Jesuit High.

The Troubadours slip to 8-16 for the year with a 1-7 record in league play. The Grizzlies, ranked second in the Sac-Joaquin Section by MaxPreps, improve to 16-5 overall, 7-2 against the SFL.

Douglas netted two goals in the first quarter then buried back-to-back shots in the final minute before halftime to tie her previous best, then scored her fifth with 5:41 remaining in the third. All five goals came from set, with sophomore Emma Dietrich assisted on two.

Douglas' fifth goal pulled SF to within a 10-6 deficit, but it ended up as the last Troubie score in the contest. Senior Bridget Manke converted a five-meter penalty shot for GB after the next restart, kicking off a run of five straight goals to end the third quarter and an 8-0 overall run. Grizzly junior Shelby Adamson hit two of the eight, putting back a bar-out miss with 1:30 left in the third while finishing a power play with 23 ticks remaining in the game.

Senior Frannie Wells contributed the remaining SF goal plus an assist, three steals and two drawn exclusions in the contest.

Following the varsity game was the girls' junior varsity finale, with Granite Bay coming away with a 17-2 win. Isabella Leyva walked up and hit a shot midway through the third to put the Troubies on the board, while Gabriella Philip's steal and counterattack opened the fourth frame. Meanwhile, freshman Audrey Solander posted 12 saves in the SF cage.

However, the Grizzly jayvees scored 10 straight before allowing the Leyva goal: five in the first quarter, two more in the second plus three to start the third. GB freshman Ainsley Tyburski scored 11 goals and assisted another to lead her team's offensive production.

St. Francis returns to action in continued SFL action at Whitney on Wednesday. The JV girls begin the four-game set at 4 p.m. with the varsity girls following at 5 p.m.
