Solander leads JV's best defensive effort to date
ROCKLIN, Calif. – Sophomore Audrey Ellis scored four goals with two steals and an assist while freshman Gia Navarrete added a goal and four steals, but a second-quarter scoring drought doomed St. Francis to a 12-7 loss to Rocklin in the girls' varsity portion of a Sierra Foothill League water polo quadrupleheader Monday night.

The Troubadours drop to 6-13 for the season with a 1-6 record in league games. The Thunder improves to 5-10 overall and picks up its first SFL win to move to 1-6.

Ellis scored both of her team's first-quarter goals and tacked on one more in each of the third and fourth frames. Navarrete and Kendal Douglas each netted a goal in the third with Emma Dietrich finding the back of the net in the fourth. However, St. Francis shot 0-for-8 in the second quarter, with Rocklin pulling from a 2-2 tie to a 4-2 halftime edge.

Junior Savannah Hamilton assisted three goals for the night while posting a pair of steals.

Following the varsity contest, the Troubadour junior varsity put up its best defensive showing of the season in falling, 4-2, to the Thunder in Monday's nightcap. Freshman goalkeeper Audrey Solander totaled eight saves, three steals and an assist to Georgianna Williams.

Isabella Leyva scored the game's first goal on an assist from Molly Suggs, helping SF hold a 1-0 edge at the halftime break. Then Rocklin scored the equalizer in the third and tacked on three more goals in the fourth to pull away to the victory. Suggs finished with five steals to lead all Troubies in the contest.

The four goals against represents the lowest opposing total since St. Francis beat Vintage, 11-1, at the CKM JV Scramble at McClatchy almost a year ago.

St. Francis' two squads split up for the remainder of the week. The younger Troubies head to Inderkum for a JV-only date on Thursday at 4 p.m. The varsity squad returns to action on Friday and Saturday at Enochs, one of multiple venues for the 47th Western States tournament. The Troubies will face Los Banos (10 a.m.) and Buhach Colony (4 p.m.) in Friday's session, then will compete in the tourney's Silver Bracket on Saturday against Beyer, Sonora or Ponderosa.

An additional schedule note: Rio Americano's Rio JV Season Closer has moved up one week to October 17-18. Pairings and start times for SF games will be available on GoTroubies.com during the preceding week.
