JV polo wraps second tourney of season

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sophomore Isabella Leyva led St. Francis with three goals during the one-day CKM Opener junior varsity girls' water polo tournament at McClatchy Saturday. The Troubadours opened the day with a 16-1 loss to the host Lions, played their best overall game in a 10-6 setback against Vintage, then dropped a 14-1 matchup to Christian Brothers in their finale.

St. Francis dips to 0-5 for the season.

Leyva scored two goals against the Crushers, then had the lone goal versus the Lancers. Sophomore Georgianna Williams netted the goal in the morning tilt with CKM. Kathryn Topp matched Leyva's brace in the late-morning contest against Vintage, while Britten Sires scored a goal to go along with two steals. Molly Suggs had a goal, a steal and an assist in that Vintage game.

Freshman Audrey Solander handled goalkeeper duties throughout all three games, finishing with save totals of five, eight and 11, respectively.

The SF water polo program begins Sierra Foothill League play with a home doubleheader against Rocklin on Wednesday. JV kicks off the quadrupleheader at 4 p.m. followed by varsity at 5 p.m. Host Jesuit then has the 6 and 7 p.m. games, as per the league's Wednesday format.
