JV polo battles but falls short at ORHS

EL DORADO HILLS, Calif. – Sophomore center Kendal Douglas scored two goals while freshman Gia Navarrete had a goal and an assist, but St. Francis fell to Oak Ridge, 12-4, in the girls' varsity portion of a Sierra Foothill League water polo quadrupleheader at the El Dorado Hills CSD community pool Monday.

The Troubadours slip to 6-11 for the year with a 1-4 record in league play.

Douglas and Navarette scored their three goals in the fourth quarter, a frame in which sophomore goalie Sasha Michon posted six saves and a steal. Junior Maya Wenceslao also enjoyed a strong final frame with two assists and a steal.

However, the host Trojans exploded to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter and maintained that margin at halftime with an 8-1 edge. Senior Ava Jack scored the lone SF goal in the first half.

St. Francis junior varsity also fell to ORHS by a 12-5 final, with sophomore Isabella Leyva leading the scoring with a pair of goals. Freshmen Fiona Pope and Audrey Solander each netted their first goals of the year, with Solander collecting nine total saves at goalkeeper. Britten Sires hit her second goal of the year, and her first since the Sept. 6 game against Vintage at McClatchy's CKM Opener.

Monday's games come as part of almost three weeks of road action for St. Francis, which heads to Davis for continued SFL action. Game times are 4 p.m. (JV) and 5 p.m. (varsity) at the Blue Devils' new on-campus aquatics center.
