Troubie polo swept in road visit to NorCal power

DAVIS, Calif. – Sophomore Emma Dietrich scored her team's lone goal while posting a pair of steals as St. Francis lost to Davis, 19-1, in the girls' varsity portion of a Sierra Foothill League water polo quadrupleheader at the new DSHS Aquatic Center Wednesday night.

The Troubadours slip to 6-12 overall with a 1-5 league record. The Blue Devils, ranked No. 1 in the Sac-Joaquin Section and No. 5 in the state by MaxPreps, improve to 11-3 for the year and remain unbeaten in SFL play at 6-0.

St. Francis scored its only goal in the final seconds of the third quarter when Kendal Douglas drew an exclusion at set. Davis successfully defended the full 20 seconds of the kickout, but Frannie Wells assisted Dietrich as the Blue Devils transitioned back to a six-player defense with mere tenths of a second remaining in the frame.

Unfortunately for the Troubies, Davis crafted a 7-0 lead in the first quarter, extended the margin to 13-0 by halftime and 16-0 by the time Dietrich found the back of the net. Addie Sinclair led the Blue Devils with four goals, with Jessie Walker, Hilde McConnell and Harper Seto also tallying hat tricks.

The Troubies' one goal in the varsity game was one more than the SF junior varsity, which dropped a 22-0 shutout in Wednesday opener. St. Francis managed 10 total shots with four on goal, but ultimately could not get on the board. The Troubie jayvees move to 1-14 overall and still seek their first SFL win at 0-5.

Both SF squads return to action for continued league play at Rocklin on Monday. Game times are 6 p.m. for varsity, 7 p.m. for JV as per the SFL Monday format.
