Gandhoke finishes 15th, wraps SF track season at state meet

CLOVIS, Calif. – St. Francis sophomore Jasleen Gandhoke cleared 5-foot-2 on her first attempt but missed all three tries at 5-4 to finish in a tie for 15th place in the girls' high jump at the 105th CIF State Track & Field Championships at Buchanan High's Veterans Memorial Stadium

Gandhoke, the lone Troubadour representative in the state meet, advanced by virtue of her Sac-Joaquin Section Masters title. She tied her career best of 5-6 at the Masters final, putting her third in school history behind only Karen Lysaght (6-0) and Tifany Grimes (5-7). Lysaght and Grimes later competed for Stanford and Cal, respectively.

The top 12 competitors from Friday's session advanced to Saturday's final, with the prelims ending once that number was reached. Junior AB Hernandez of Jurupa Valley led the field of those who beat 5-5, having done so with a clean sheet of three attempts in three rounds. (Note: the prelim flight ended before McClatchy's Kate Hemesath or Clovis East's Indiana Davis could attempt 5-5 due to the meet's "five alive" format.) The girls' high jump final begins at 5 p.m. Saturday.

St. Francis finished third in its first year as a member of the Sierra Foothill League, then fourth at the CIF-SJS Division I meet. No team results were compiled at the SJS Masters.
