FOLSOM, Calif. – Freshman Miya Menza posted a personal-best time of 10 minutes, 58.97 seconds in the girls' 3,200-meter run, highlighting St. Francis' second day of action at the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters track & field meet at Folsom High's Prairie City Stadium Saturday.
Menza, who finished 14th in the race, cut almost 14 seconds off her previous personal record of 11:12.68, set at the Halden Invitational on April 19. The 10:58.97 clocking also makes her just the eighth Troubadour in history to crack the 11-minute barrier. Grace Dunham performed the feat twice as a senior last year and Cate Joaquin previously did it 11 times in her career from 2019-2022, but they were the first since 2017.
Menza was one of four SF individuals in action during Saturday's session, which features finals from Friday's preliminary rounds plus finals-only distance and field events. Fellow ninth grader Halle Welch represented the Troubadours in the 1,600, placing 21st at 5:24.75
Sophomore Jasleen Gandhoke had the highest individual SF finish, placing eighth in the 100 hurdles with a 15.56 time. She comes off Friday's high jump championship, which earned her the lone Troubie ticket to next week's state championship in Fresno. Gandhoke advanced to the final thanks to a PR 15.00, a time she posted while still competing in the high jump.
The relay squad of Gaby Gonzalez, Alexa Randall, Emma Bugarin and Jada Dwyre opened Saturday with a sixth-place 49.32 in the 4x400 frelay. Randall opted out of the 400, for which she nabbed the 10th and final qualifier from Friday; then went 29.08 in the 200 for ninth. Welch later replace Randall to join Nassali Serwanga, Colleen Medina and Brynn Baker to finish the meet with a 10th in the 4x400 relay (4:15.30).
The 105th CIF state championship meet takes place at Buchanan High in Fresno next Friday and Saturday.
