GRANITE BAY, Calif. – Sophomore Jasleen Gandhoke won the high jump with a personal-best five feet, six inches while placing second in each of the two hurdles races for 26 total points, while sophomore Alexa Randall posted podium finishes in each of the 100, 200 and two relays, helping St. Francis finish third at the Sierra Foothill League championship track & field meet, hosted by Granite Bay High.
The Troubies, competing in their first year in the SFL, scored 78 points to trail only Whitney (123) and fellow new member Davis (110). They also edged Oak Ridge by seven points, with Granite Bay not far behind the Trojans in fifth with 64 points. Del Oro (27), Folsom (26) and Rocklin (25) rounded out the SFL field.
The championship meet does not determine the final league standings, but rather contributes to the finish along with the three dual meets during the year. However, it does serve as the qualifying meet to the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I championships, as the top 10 in each event plus anyone who surpasses the automatic qualifying standards earn spots in the meet held at Folsom on May 13 and 15.
Gandhoke easily won the high jump as the only entrant to clear even 5-foot-3. As the last person standing, she had the option to set the bar at any height for her next round. Gandhoke chose 5-foot-6, one inch higher than her previous best from the March 5 league center meet. She ended up beating that height on her second attempt. The 5-6 improved Gandhoke's No. 3 standing in the school record book, and became the best jump by a Troubadour since Tifani Grimes went 5-7 at the 2004 Bronco Invite. Karen Lysaught's 6-0 at the 1980 CIF state meet remains the SF benchmark.
Earlier in the meet, Gandhoke finished second in each of the 100-meter hurdles (15.84) and 300 hurdles (46.62). She performed the former mark despite facing a headwind of 1.6 meters per second; while her long hurdles time moves her in to eighth in school history.
Randall opened the day by joining Lucia Vicio, Emma Bugarin and Jada Dwyre for the league championship in the 4x100 relay at 49.60. She then followed with two sizable PRs in the 400 (57.92) and 200 (25.85), each good for second-place points in the team scoring. That quarter-mile time improved her from eighth to seventh in the SF record book, moving ahead of Kiani Reyna (58.19 in 2016) and behind former Sierra Leone National Team member Ugo Eke (57.85 in 2006). Randall's 200 time improved her No. 9 standing in the Troubie top 10, cutting .08 from her previous best of 25.93 from three weeks earlier at the third SFL center meet.
Senior Jada Dwyre also picked up eight runner-up points for her team, thanks to a 12.95 in the 100. She beat Whitney's Elyse Sutton by a hundredth of a second for the extra finish (and two extra points), and setting a PR. Her previous "best" was a slightly wind-aided 12.88 at the April 9 league meet, while her old wind-legal PB was her 12.98 at Bella Vista in late March. Dwyre's 2025 season has been a welcome but not surprising comeback to track & field: she sat out most of 2023 and all of the 2024 track season due to injury, but her speed made her a vital cog in the Troubadour soccer team's success in that same span.
The 4x400 relay squad of Nassali Serwanga, Colleen Medina, Brynn Baker and Randall finished third in a literal photo finish. That foursome compiled a time of 4:08.83, or more accurately, 4:08.28. Granite Bay thus placed second at 4:08.821 – seven thousandths of a second faster – with Del Oro just behind at 4:08.84.
St. Francis' participation in the meet ended with one more highlight: Tayli Paeu-Lindgren's third-place leap of 33-9 in the triple jump. She hit a PR of 33-8 in the second round, the reset it by an inch in the fourth. The mark ties her with Patty Cubanski for eighth in SF annals, a feat made more impressive given that the Troubie flag football and basketball star had never done the event prior to this season, with the league championships being just her fifth time competing in it. Paeu-Lindgren's bronze in the triple followed a sixth-place 15-11.5 in the long jump.
Besides the aforementioned qualifiers, St. Francis also advanced Halle Welch in the 1,600 meters (10th), Baker in the 400 (seventh), Serwanga in both the 200 (10th) and 400 (eighth), Dwyre in the 200 (fifth), Abbey Pavelchik in the high jump (10th) and Antonija Jezildzic in both the shot put (seventh) and discus throw (sixth). Jezildzic, the one SF entrant in either throwing event, fired a PB of 29-5 in the opening round before breaking the 30-foot barrier for her first time with a 30-3 in the sixth and final round.
The SJS Division I meet takes place on May 13 and 15, with mostly prelims on the Tuesday portion followed by all finals on the Thursday session. The 3 p.m. girls' discus will be the first of any St. Francis event on that Tuesday, with the 4:45 p.m. 4x800 starting the overall running event schedule.
