ELK GROVE, Calif. – Junior Chloe Harrison led her varsity teammates with sixth-place finishes in each of the 1,600- and 3,200-meter races while freshman Emilia Ryan became just the fourth St. Francis runner to crack 12 minutes in the 3,200 this season, highlighting Troubadour action at Sheldon's Glenn Rogers Distance Carnival Friday night.
Ryan led a 1-2-3 St. Francis trifecta in the frosh-soph edition of the 3,200, crossing the finishi line in 11 minutes, 57.00 seconds. Emily Colonnello placed second at 12:05.69, with Sophia Hernandez not far behind in third with a 12:07.66 clocking. Oddly, Ryan's time in the frosh-soph would have made her the fastest SF runner in the varsity race, as Harrison led that crew of Troubies with a personal record of 12:02.40.
Ryan's performance cut more than nine seconds off her season debut of 12:06.28 at the third Sierra Foothill League center meet earlier in April.
The three previous Troubies to eclipse the 12-minute barrier in 2025 were Halle Welch, who did so at the Sac State Classic, Dublin Distance Fiesta and Stanford Invitational; Miya Menza, who did it three times prior to hitting a PR of 11:12.68 at the Halden Invite one week earlier; and Sunny Schranz, who broke that threshold at Oakmont's Glenn Poole Invite, the Sac State, Dublin and SFL meets. Welch and Schranz sat out Friday's meet in preparation for the Sacramento Meet of Champions the next day.
Harrison also posted a PR of 5:33.69 in the varsity 1,600, with Ryan following that with a runner-up 5:29.36 in the frosh-soph 1,600. In fact, only winner Lucia Rodriguez spoiled a 1-2-3 SF finish in that frosh-soph race, as Ryan, Colonnello (5:40.75) and Hernandez (5:45.24) came through in second, third and fourth places, respectively.
The Glenn Rogers meet, formerly known as the Sheldon Distance Carnival until it was renamed after the passing of the beloved Huskies coach, features high school and middle school events – the latter of which often features future St. Francis students.
A select group of St. Francis track & field athletes will take part in the Sacramento MOC at American River College on Saturday. The meet consists of two sessions: the Open portion in the morning and afternoon followed by the Invitational meet in the evening. These are the final Troubie meets before the Sierra Foothill League championships next week.
