PLACER, Calif. – Sophomore Alexa Randall took part in three winning relays, while sophomore Mia Hollar placed second in the 3,200 meters, highlighting St. Francis at the LeFebvre Relays high school track & field meet at Placer High's Stacy Dragila Track Friday.
Randall was the lone Troubadour to snare three gold medals in the meet. She joined Lucia Vicio, Jada Dwyre and Tayli Paeu-Lindgren for a time of 50.70 seconds in the 4x100, then anchored a 4x200 squad that featured Dwyre, Emma Bugarin and Vicio to a 1:51.26. Finally, the 4x400 team of Colleen Medina, Alina Gutierrez, Randall and Brynn Baker compiled a 4:15.26. Impressively, Medina and Randall achieved the 4x400 win despite being less than hour removed from the 4x200.
Hollar led a large cadre of Troubadours in the 3,200 metesr, crossing in 12 minutes, 39.24 seconds. Emily Colonnello (12:41.40), Jordan Brace (12:41.89) and Sophia Hernandez (12:47.90) followed in third through fifth. In fact, St. Francis swept the second through ninth spots overall. Hollar, one of St. Francis' top frosh-soph performers during the cross country season, competed for the school's swim team last year but opted to run distances and hurdles as a 10th grader.
The LeFebvre meet features an unusual format in that field events are also contested as relays, with a school's top three competitors forming a team. St. Francis only had two pole vaulters, thus not officially fielding a "relay," but Coauette's 7-foot-0 took part in a four-way tie for second behind Bear River's Rachel Sartori (8-0).
Paeu-Lindgren tied for third in the high jump with a 4-8, although running deep in that event prevented her from competing in the triple jump, where Del Oro's Stacey Holbert posted a winning 32-7 – a foot shorter than Paeu-Lindgren's debut at Wednesday's Sierra Foothill League double-dual center meet.
Coauette's and Paeu-Lindgren's actual meet places were not calculated according to attempts, as the marks were primarily intended to contribute toward field relay totals.
Other highlights included sophomore Anastacia Uniza, who popped a triple jump of 29-6 to improve on her previous best by more than three full feet; and the crew of Mykaela Le, Zoe Smith, Ashley Sexauer and Ashlyn Smith, who enjoyed the opportunity to form an all-senior 4x800 'B' squad. Hollar, Colonnello, Hernandez and Brace formed the 'A' crew for that eight-lap event, placing fourth with a 11:00.01.
St. Francis returns to action at the Sac State High School Classic at Hornet Stadium Saturday. The first events – the girls' shot put and 4x100 relays – begin at 10 a.m.
