Troubies earn No. 2 seed, host Ripon in NorCal opener

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis has been awarded the No. 2 seed and will host 15th-seeded Ripon in the first round of the CIF NorCal Region Division II girls' volleyball championship tournament, the state governing body announced Sunday. The match will take place at 6 p.m. on Tuesday in the Troubadours' main gymnasium.

The NorCal regional represents one half of the overall CIF state tournament, with the winner to face the Southern California champ on November 22. Both SF and Ripon advanced from the Sac-Joaquin Section: the Troubadours as a semifinalist in the Division II draw, with the Indians reaching the final of the D-III bracket.

The Troubadours enter the regional with a 32-8 overall record. Junior outside hitter Hailey Sutton leads the office with 327 kills, the program's highest total since Alexa Edwards posted 464 in her senior season of 2019. Two more juniors – OH Sophia Palmeri (27) and opposite Gilly Glikman (223) – also average at least 2.0 kills per set. Sutton also has 366 digs on the year, second on the SF roster behind only libero Malia Fat's 394; and paces the Troubies with 67 aces. Senior Katie Kramer, junior Hiedi Vu and sophomores Harper Rios and Brynley Magley have combined for 917 assists as part of the team's 6-2 system.

Ripon holds a 28-5 mark following its five-set loss to Christian Brothers in the section title match on Saturday. Senior opposite Adriana Dorn, a Pacific commit and an OMNI teammate of many of the Troubies, owns heady season totals of 480 kills (5.2 per set), a .422 hitting average, 298 digs and 86 aces. Sophomore Ashlyn Malone and junior Jorie Eskes enter the regional with kills totals of 294 and 245, respectively, with junior setter Alayna Sprinkle running the offense to the tune of 887 assists.

St. Francis last reached the NorCal regional in 2022, drawing a No. 8 seed and falling to top-seeded Saint Francis of Mountain View in the first round of the Open division. The Troubadours have reached the state finale twice, winning the overall title back in 2005. In fact, current head coach Taryn Campbell (then Taryn Wright) set a CIF championship record of 12 aces in that match, a benchmark that survives two decades later.

Tickets are available only through the CIF State GoFan channel (https://cifstate.org/sports/girls_volleyball/brkts_2025/d2), with a direct link to go on site likely on Monday. Tuesday's match will also be streamed on the NFHS Network. Links to tickets, video and the D-II bracket are available at GoTroubies.com.
