Volleyball's section playoff run ends against top-ranked Thunder

ROCKLIN, Calif. – St. Francis managed only 15 kills against 14 attack errors while surrendering a season-high 16 service aces in falling to Rocklin by scores of 25-12, 25-10, 25-19, in the semifinal round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II girls' volleyball championship tournament Tuesday night.

The fourth-seeded Troubadours move to 32-8 for the year. The top-seeded Thunder, ranked No. 1 in the section (across all divisions) and 10th in the state by MaxPreps, improves to 33-4 overall.

Junior outside hitters Hailey Sutton and Sophia Palmeri posted kills totals of seven and four respectively, while Sutton matched setter Katie Kramer with a team-high 11 digs. Senior Chloe Johnson served up two SF's four aces. However, Rocklin largely handcuffed the Troubie offense, with 66 of the 98 swings coming from the two junior left-siders. In contrast, middles Mercy Collier and Marissa Jensen were limited to just 1-for-3 hitting.

St. Francis' run in the section tourney ends but its season does not: the Troubies already qualified for the CIF NorCal Region Championship by virtue of advancing to the semifinal round. Pairings for the regional will be announced on Sunday.
