SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Eighth-grader Mila Le earned tournament Most Valuable Player honors while teammate Olivia Szymanowski also made the all-tourney squad, leading St. Ignatius to a 25-14, 25-9 sweep of Saint Mel in the title match of the 2025 St. Francis PAL Volleyball Tournament Saturday.
Under the tutelage of head coach Jason Cooley, the champion Tigers' roster comprises Le, Szymanowski, Brooklyn MacDonald, Emma Baker, Brooklyn Rowsey, London Elorduy, Ashley DuFosse and Savanah DuFosse.
SI went undefeated in round-robin pool play with sweeps of St. Robert, St. Michael's and Saint Mel; then avenged two previous losses to OLG in the semifinal match with a 25-18, 25-15 straight-set victory. The tourney ended with the Tigers' 2-0 win over Saint Mel in the title match. OLG turned around to defeat Sacred Heart in split sets, 21-25, 25-17, 15-7, in the third-place match. Meanwhile, St. Francis of Assisi won the consolation bracket, going the distance in three sets, 25-16, 20-25, 15-10, over St. Michael's.
All players from the eight participating teams received a commemorative T-shirt for the tournament, while one performer from each team plus the overall MVP snared a long-sleeve T-shirt for all-tournament honors.
The Parochial Athletic League consists of more than two dozen K-8 schools operating under the auspices of the Diocese of Sacramento, which oversees St. Francis Catholic High School.
The host Troubadour volleyball teams return to action on Monday for a Sierra Foothill League tripleheader against Folsom. The following Wednesday, the teams host Granite Bay for the PAL Night promotion, which culminates with an autograph session for all fans. PAL students wearing either their school or volleyball uniforms earn free admission in Wednesday's set against the Grizzlies.
