Troubies win five events, honor seniors at home finale

CARMICHAEL, Calif. – Senior Sarah Charles, junior Grace Dunham, junior Kayla Towne and sophomore Maysen Boswell each won individual events while Dunham and senior thrower Lauren Riley enjoyed huge personal records, highlighting St. Francis in the second of two Delta League center track & field meets at Jesuit High Wednesday.

Dunham lopped more than foul full seconds off her previous best in the 800, crossing the line in two minutes, 20.31 seconds and catching Franklin's Theone Divinagracia midway down the home stretch. Dunham, whose previous best was a 2:24.36 at the March 22 center meet, moved up to No. 9 in the Sac-Joaquin Section rankings and now sits third in the Delta League behind teammate Kayla Towne and Davis' Norah Dulaney.

Senior Lauren Riley went 110 feet, 5 inches in the discus throw, eclipsing her previous best by almost three feet and putting herself at seventh in the program record book. The last Troubie to break the 110-foot standard was future UC Santa Barbara thrower Samantha Ruggles, who did so at the 2015 Delta League championships.

Riley later unleashed a personal-best shot put of 33-5 to finish second behind Cosumnes Oaks' Elizabeth Byars. This moved the future ROTC cadet into 10th on the school's all-time leaderboard, behind No. 9 Margo Jaime (33-7, 1989). Similarly, it is the best shot put performance by a Troubadour since Ruggles in 2015.

Charles broke the one-minute barrier in the 400-meter dash for the second straight meet, posting a winning time of 59.97. This comes almost three weeks after her personal-best 59.58 set at Rocklin's Thunder Invite, a mark that ranks ninth in the Sac-Joaquin Section and third in the Delta League.

Towne finished the 1,600 in 5:05.50 to outduel Davis' Norah Dulaney. Boswell fired a 28-5 in the frosh-soph shot put, well ahead of Davis' Anna Kimball (27-3) and teammate Antonija Jezildzic (24-11.5) among the podium finishes. Jezildzic and Boswell previous finished 2-3 in the frosh-soph discus throw.

Additionally, St. Francis picked up an event win in the varsity 4x100 relay, with Tacori Abril, Micaela Romo, Caitlin Hafenstein and Kyah Pickett dominating the three-team field with a 50.61 time.

With the center meet also being the last "home" meet for St. Francis, the coaching staff honored the team's 14 seniors after the meet: Charles, Riley, Romo, Khalen Chiddick, Ava Ellis, Grace Himmelmann, Olivia Huerta, Kayla Hussey, Abby Page, Maddie Pelfrey, Paige Quigley, Donna Valizadeh, Remi Vrilakas and Daphne Witherell.

The Troubies return to action on Saturday for the Halden Invitational, held at Davis' Ron & Mary Brown Stadium. Meet time is 9 a.m.
