ARCADIA, Calif. – The foursome of Grace Dunham, Daphne Witherell, Kelsey Sutch and Kayla Towne compiled a time of 21 minutes, 36.03 seconds to finish ninth in the Invitational 4xmile relay, closing out St. Francis' first-day action at the vaunted Arcadia Invitational track & field meet at Arcadia High School Friday.
This marks the first time since the 2008 Arcadia Invite that the Troubadours have competed in this event, with Nicole Mendoza, Katherine Enabnit, Meghan Enabnit and Sarah Bolce placing fifth at 21:35.83. That group previously set the school record of 21.26.71 at the 2007 version of the meet.
St. Francis also fielded the 4x800 squad of Sutch, Paige Quigley, Ryann Strawn and Pamela Vargas, which took 22nd with a 10:22.89.
Known as the "Home of National Records," the Arcadia Invitational has featured 33 U.S. records and more than 200 Olympians since its inception in 1968. Awards are presented to the top finishers in each event, while coveted meet souvenirs are issued to all participants in the Invitational heats and flights.
The meet continues through Saturday. Two individual Troubadours – Towne (800 meters) and Maddie Pelfrey (pole vault) – will make appearances on Day 2. SF also has a distance medley relay at 7:23 p.m.. Links to results and live video from the meet are available at GoTroubies.com.
