Troubies split squads to Stanford, Granite Bay

Troubies split squads to Stanford, Granite Bay

GRANITE BAY, Calif. – Senior Lauren Riley, sophomore Maysen Boswell and senior Maddie Pelfrey each won individual events at the Granite Bay Field Festival, while the foursome of Grace Dunham, Sarah Charles, Kayla Towne and Daphne Witherell finished third at the vaunted Stanford Invitational, highlighting St. Francis track & field action 140 miles apart on Friday.

Dunham ran the 1,200-meter leadoff leg, Charles ran the 400 for the second leg, Towne handled the 800 for the third segment, then Witherell anchored for the 1,600 finale. No splits were available, but the Troubie foursome compiled a 12:24.38 for the meet. That ranks as the No. 5 performance in school history for that event, nestled between the SF times at this very meet in 2019 (12:21.47) and 2016 (12:26.20).

Meanwhile, Riley won the varsity shot put with a personal record of 33 feet, 3 inches; then followed with a winning 99-3.5 in the discus throw. Boswell also hit a PR in the junior varsity shot put at 28-7, and placed second in the JV discus with a 70-6 toss. Pelfrey went 11-0 to win the pole vault.

As the name implies, GBHS meet featured only throws and jumps.

The Stanford Invite continues on Saturday, with Towne representing St. Francis in the girls' 800 at 1:52 p.m. The Troubie sprinters will return to action on Saturday at Bella Vista's Bronco Speed Festival, starting at 9 a.m.
