DO's big bats show up as Troubies lose at home

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Corner infielders Reese Lewis and Isabella Barge each hit 2-for-4 but St. Francis could not match 14 hits by Del Oro – including six for extra bases – in an 11-0 loss to the Golden Eagles in Sierra Foothill League softball action at Schuster Field Wednesday.

The Troubadours slip to 5-18 overall and remain winless in league at 0-10. The Golden Eagles improve to 23-1, 11-1 as the No. 1 team in the Sac-Joaquin Section according to MaxPreps' power rankings.

Claire Krotine, Kaili Heeb, Jaeya Leavitt and Kylee Garrett each added singles to SF's hit total, with Lewis, Heeb and Barge beginning the seventh with three straight hits. Unfortunately for the Troubies, senior reliever Ava Messina retired the next three batters in order to complete the three-inning save.

Oddly, many of St. Francis' hardest-hit balls ended up as outs: Lewis, Heeb, Garrett and Krotine each barreled line drives but directly to center fielder Abby Davidson and left fielder Caelyn Campos for four of the six outs in the fifth and sixth innings.

Meanwhile, the Golden Eagles pushed across three runs in the first, then one more in each of the second, fifth and sixth; before catcher Kate Brown's three-run blast highlighted a five-run seventh.

St. Francis completes a busy week on the road at Oak Ridge, the area's No. 2-ranked team, on Friday. The Troubies will then host two games to finish their regular season: Monday vs. Whitney, then the Booster-Q and Senior Night finale with Davis on May 7. All remaining games begin at 5 p.m.
