Troubies sweep Day 1 of NorCal Leadoff Classic

TRACY, Calif. – Senior right fielder Claire Krotine hit a combined 6-for-8 with three triples, junior shortstop Isabella Barge delivered the game-winning hit in the eighth inning in a 9-8 win over Kimball, then freshman Kaili Heeb finished 3-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs to lead the offense while going 3.2 innings in relief during an 11-4 win over Berkeley, completing a first-day sweep for St. Francis at the NorCal Leadoff Classic at Legacy Field Thursday.

The Troubadours improve to 4-15 for the season.

Krotine's bat in the opener led 15 total hits for St. Francis. Pitcher Kinsley Imm went 3-for-4 with two doubles to provide her own run support, and third baseman Kylee Garrett went 2-for-4 with her first home run of the season. The Troubies crafted a 4-0 lead in the first two innings before the Jaguars stormed back for six runs in the fifth. SF then pulled ahead by an 8-6 margin before a leadoff double from Iolana Faasisila helped Kimball post two runs in the seventh to force extra frames.

With automatic runner Jaeya Leavitt placed on second to start the inning, Barge worked her way from an 0-2 count to punch a hard grounder through the left side of the infield. Leavitt, who previously moved up 60 feet on a passed ball, came in for the go-ahead run. Krotine followed with a rip up the middle to continue the rally, and Imm later walked to load the bases, but senior Alexa Contreras coaxed a pop-up to herself to control the damage.

Krotine tripled in each of the first and second innings, with the latter clearing the bases after Alexis McFarland, Garrett and Leavitt opening with three straight hits. Garrett's solo shot led off the sixth, helping to offset the Jaguar's monstrous fifth, which ended on a Leavitt-to-Barge putout on an attempted steal of third.

Imm doubled to lead off the third, then she matched the feat in the seventh upon returning to the game for the reliever Heeb. This set the table for Ariella Alcantar's RBI single and a McFarland sacrifice fly to center.

In contrast to the opener against Kimball, St. Francis' nightcap win over Berkeley only went five innings, with the Troubies never trailing. Heeb smacked a two-run double in the first inning, then Krotine plated Garrett on a triple to left in the second as SF took a 4-1 lead.

The Yellowjackets took advantage of three errors in the bottom of the second to equalize at 4-4, but the Troubies responded with two more in the third and five in the fourth to take the lead for good. Leavitt drove a two-run single to left to highlight that third stanza, then Imm's double plus RBI hits for Heeb, McFarland and Julia Nielsen plus an outfield error helped propel SF into double digits for the second time in the 2025 season.

Heeb also took over the pitching circle from starter Reese Lewis in the second, then went the distance with just one unearned run counting against her in 3.2 innings.

The two wins moves St. Francis to Friday's 8 a.m. semifinal at Legacy Fields No. 4 diamond. The Troubies will face Vintage which shut out Mountain House (4-0) and Orestimba (10-0) on its side of the "Big12" bracket. The 10-4 Vikings entered the week ranked 10th in the North Coast Section. The winner of Friday morning's game will take on the winner of the Ben Holt-Manteca matchup for a noon championship on Legacy Field 2, with the third-place game taking place on the adjacent on Field 4.
