SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Claire Krotine and Ariella Alcantar each walked while Alexis McFarland reached on an error to represent the only Troubadours to reach base, as St. Francis dropped an 11-0 no-hitter to Oak Ridge in Sierra Foothill League softball action at Schuster Field Wednesday.
The Troubadours slip to 1-9 for the season and 0-4 in SFL play. The Trojans, ranked No. 1 in the Sac-Joaquin Section and No. 3 in the state per MaxPreps.com, improves to 13-0 overall and 4-0 in league games.
Krotine led off the first with her walk and managed to steal second with two outs, but never moved past that point on the basepaths as Ellison Schroeder fanned out the side as part of her total of eight strikeouts. McFarland reached on an errant throw – oddly, by Schroeder – then moved up 60 feet on each of two groundouts, but was stranded on third on another Schroeder punchout.
Alcantar's walk came with two outs in the fifth, with the Troubadours looking to put up two runs to avoid the 10-run rule. Kylee Garrett hit a well-struck grounder up the middle, but shortstop Carly Short snagged the ball and had an easy tap on the keystone for the final out.
Meanwhile, Oak Ridge pushed across a run in the first, four in the second, then six more in the fifth to put the run rule into effect. First baseman Brooklyn Paratore hit 3-for-3 with two doubles and three runs scored, while Short finished 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two more runs to lead the Trojans' 10-hit output.
The Troubies head to Davis for a 5 p.m. SFL game on Friday, then take on Christian Brothers for the "Holy Diamond" rivalry matchup on Saturday at noon.
