FOLSOM, Calif. – Senior right fielder Claire Krotine hit 3-for-4 with a leadoff triple, while corner infielders Isabella Barge and Kinsley Imm each finished 2-for-3 with a double at the plate, but St. Francis could not overcome an immediate 4-0 hole in falling to Folsom, 6-2, in Sierra Foothill League fastpitch action Monday evening.

The Troubadours slip to 5-17 for the year and remain winless in SFL play at 0-9. The Bulldogs improve to 11-8-2 overall and 6-5 in league games.

Krotine lashed a triple to right on just the fourth pitch of the game, but was stranded there as Folsom senior righthander Erica Bennett escaping with two outs in the air and one strikeout. Then in the bottom half of that first inning, sophomore catcher Devyn Huber knocked a two-run double as part of a four-run outburst before SF could even record its first out.

Junior Reese Lewis took over the pitching circle, where she went four innings complete while allowing just four hits and one run. Unfortunately, St. Francis struggled against Bennett, who came a Barge single away from perfect second, third and fourth innings. In fact, it wasn't until Barge's next time up that a Troubie reached: the Yale commit drove a double to left to lead off the fifth. Two batters later, Imm repeated the hit to bring in Barge, then Krotine later plated Imm on a two-out single, the latter of which whittled the Folsom lead to 4-2.

The Bulldogs tacked on another two runs in the fifth to restore the margin to four. The Troubies threatened in the seventh, with Kylee Garrett, Imm and Krotine each collecting hits to load the bases. However Bennett worked her way out of it with a key strikeout, then freshman right fielder Xavia Hodgins ran down the game-ending fly ball.

Krotine's opening triple raised her season total to six, putting her just one behind Mady Lombard on the school's MaxPreps-era record book. Lombard, who later played at Central Arkansas, posted her record of seven in just 105 plate appearances in 2006. The Santa Clara-bound Krotine has now hit 12-for-17 in the last five games, raising her season slash line to .453/.494/.627.

Monday's game began a five-game finish to the SFL season, and a three-game week for the Troubies. They return home on Wednesday to host Del Oro, currently ranked No. 1 in the Sac-Joaquin Section and No. 3 in the state by MaxPreps. First pitch is 5 p.m. at Schuster Field.
