Water polo to open section playoffs at Lodi

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis earned a No. 11 seed and will travel to sixth-seeded Lodi for the first round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II girls' water polo championship tournament, the section office announced Thursday. The contest takes place at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

The Troubadours enter the postseason with an 8-20 overall record, but the overall toughness of the Sierra Foothill League resulted in a No. 12 ranking by MaxPreps among area D-II programs. The Flames are 11-11 overall and finished second in the Tri-City Athletic League behind only St. Mary's.

Offensively, sophomore Kendal Douglas leads St. Francis with 31 goals with sophomore Emma Dietrich compiling a team-high 55 points (30 goals, 25 assists). Seven players average at least a point per game: Douglas, Dietrich, Maya Wenceslao (25-18-43), Audrey Ellis (22-7-29), Gia Navarrete (17-22-39), Frances Wells (15-16-31) and Savannah Hamilton (11-22-33).

Lodi's scoring output is concentrated among three program veterans, with senior hole set Harlan Woodard (102 goals), junior defender Margaret Graham (43) and senior driver Taitam Brown (18) collectively accounting for more than 80 percent of the team's 203 tallies. The Flames' common opponents with SF are a 10-9 win over Rocklin and a 16-5 loss to Ponderosa. The Troubies split with each of those opponents in 2025.

Merced, St. Mary's, Rio Americano and El Capitan received the tournament's top four seeds, respectively. The full bracket is available at https://www.cifsjs.org/girls-water-polo-d2-bracket.
