Troubies sweep first day at Granite Bay Grizzly Classic

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sophomore Emme Dietrich scored five goals with two assists while fellow 10th-grader Kendal Douglas chipped in another four goals and two dimes as St. Francis rolled past Cardinal Newman to kick off Day 1 action at the eighth-annual Granite Bay Grizzly Classic Friday.

Douglas then followed with a hat trick while Dietrich scored a goal with two assists in a 10-9 win over El Camino the Friday's nightcap. The Troubadours improve to 15-9 for the year. They played Friday's games at their regular practice facility of American River College, one of three sites hosting tournament games.

Dietrich's goals total against the Cardinals represents a career high, surpassing the four she tallied in back-to-back games against Golden West and Redwood to start the 2025 season. Douglas also registered a new best in her young varsity career.

Sophomore Audrey Ellis added two more goals while freshman Gia Navarrete netted a goal to go with her team-leading four assists against the Cardinals. Sasha Michon tallied 10 saves in the early-afternoon win over CN, with seven coming in the first half.  St. Francis led 7-2 at the break then 11-3 through three frames.

Navarrete later had six steals in the win over the Eagles, including four in the fourth quarter to help pull SF from an 8-7 deficit through three quarters to the one-goal win. Michon also came up with seven of her nine total saves after the halftime break to help beat EC.

Maya Wenceslao matched Douglas' three goals against EC, with Audrey Ellis totaling three points (a goal, two assists).

St. Francis relocates to Oak Ridge's home pool at the El Dorado Hills CSD for Saturday's portion of the tourney. The Troubies face Holy Water rival Christian Brothers at 9 a.m. followed by Ponderosa at noon.
