SF celebrates seniors in regular-season finale

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis water polo honored seniors Sara Ellis, Rose Haag, Ava Jack and Frances Wells prior to the girls' varsity portion of a Sierra Foothill League water polo quadrupleheader against Davis Monday, but the Troubadours ultimately fell to the Sac-Joaquin Section's top-ranked team by a final of 17-1.

SF finishes its regular season with an 8-20 overall record and a 1-11 SFL mark. Davis improves to 19-9 and finishes the league schedule with an umblemished 12-0 record.

Ellis tallied the lone goal for the Troubies, sending a shot bar-in with 3:08 remaining in the second. However, the Blue Devils scored seven unanswered in the first quarter and held leads of 10-1 at the halftime break and 15-1 through three quarters.

Sara Ellis and her younger sister, Audrey Ellis, each posted three steals. Gia Navarrete drew an exclusion in the first quarter and Maya Wenceslao did the same in the fourth, but SF failed to convert the power play.

Junior Addie Sinclair led Davis with four goals with fellow 11th grader Jessie Walker adding a hat trick and two assists for five total points.

The Troubie junior varsity closed out the night with a 21-3 loss to the Blue Devils. Sophomore Adrianna Perri scored two goals while Georgianna Williams had a goal and an assist in the season finale.

St. Francis varsity will learn of its Sac-Joaquin Section playoff status on Thursday afternoon. The Troubies entered Monday's game ranked No. 13 in Division II by MaxPreps, just behind Rocklin and well ahead of Kimball. The top four teams were Merced, St. Mary's, Rio Americano and El Capitan, with Del Oro being the highest-ranked SFL team at No. 5.
