Towne hits 400 PR at Delta League center meet

CARMICHAEL, Calif. – Sophomore Kayla Towne won the girls' varsity 400-meter race with a personal-best time of 61.44 seconds, senior Tatiana Cornejo won the varsity 3,200, while sophomore Elise Blomquist also scored an event win in the frosh/soph shot put, highlighting St. Francis at the second Delta League track & field center meet Wednesday at Jesuit High.

Towne's previous best was a 1:01.88 set at the Bronco Speed Festival back on April 2. She has the second-fastest time by a Troubadour this season, trailing only Grace Heisinger's 1:00.95 from the previous Delta League center meet. Blomquist, a former hurdler and sprinter, won the shot with a push of 28 feet, 10.5 inches on Wednesday. This shatters her previous PR of 27-11, which won the JV flight at the March 30 center meet.

Cornejo, who set the school 1,600 record earlier this season, made her 3,200 debut for the year at 12:06.06, more than 31 seconds faster than the nearest competitor. Other highlights belonged to the 800-meter tandem of Grace Dunham and Daphne Witherell, who also shattered PRs to finish second and third in that event. Dunham crossed in 2:24.60 while Witherell followed at 2:29.24.
