Pelfrey wins pole vault at Glenn Poole Invite

ROSEVILLE, Calif. – Junior Maddie Pelfrey won the girls' varsity pole vault with a leap of 11 feet, six inches at Oakmont's Glenn Poole Invitational, kicking off the 2002 St. Francis High School track & field season.

Pelfrey was one of two Troubadours in the event, as Donna Valizadeh placed fourth at 9-8. Pelfrey's 11-6 surpasses her previous outdoor high by 18 inches, although she also owns an 11-4 effort in indoor track at the UCS National Pole Vault Summit earlier this year. The mark also moves her into a tie for fourth in the school record book.

The two pole vaulters combined for 14 points in the team scoring. Sophomores Ava Forte (6-8) and Kendal Graham (6-2) also competed in the frosh-soph division. They were the only SFHS entries in the meet.

The full Troubie track & field squad will kick off the new season at Placer's LeFebvre Relays and the Sacramento State High School Classic on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
