DAVIS, Calif. – Senior Kenna DeLemos won the girls' varsity long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 0.75 inches while Peyton Carson, Kayla Towne, Daphne Witherell and Grace Dunham captured the varsity races from 400 through 3,200 meters in length, highlighting St. Francis action at a blustery Delta League dual meet at Davis Saturday.
Witherell was arguably the top individual Troubadour performer of the day, winning the 1,600 meters at 5:33.72 while finishing second to Towne in the 800 at 2:40.65. Carson (1:04.38) edged teammate Sarah Charles (1:04.95) to win the 400, while Towne went 2:27.91 to capture the 800. Dunham, who ranks second in the Delta League with her PR of 11:35.07 at Bella Vista two weeks prior, dominated a small field in the 3,200 with an 11:40.41.
DeLemos also ran the second leg of the winning 4x100 relay (50.73), along with Kyah Pickett, Hafenstein and anchor Simone Sagay. The girls' short relay combined with a larger field in the boys 4x100, with the Troubies placing third overall.
St. Francis also scored frosh-soph event wins from Caitlin Hafenstein in the 200 (wind-aided 13.18), Stella Davenport in the 3,200 (14:53.18), and Amaya Pangilinan in the 100 hurdles (wind-aided 19.49). The Troubadours did not field athletes in any of the throws, long hurdles, nor vertical jumps.
The St. Francis-Davis dual was a relatively late addition to the 2022 schedule, designed to bridge the gap until both team's next meet, the second of two Delta League center meets at Jesuit High on April 20.
Meanwhile, a trio of Troubies – pole vaulter Maddie Pelfrey, miler Tatiana Cornejo and 3,200 runner Cate Joaquin – competed down south at the famed Arcadia Invitational. Coverage of that meet will appear separately at GoTroubies.com later on Saturday.
