GRANITE BAY, Calif. – Juniors Maddie Pelfrey and Lauren Riley highlighted a small crew of St. Francis pole vaulters and throwers, respectively, at the Granite Bay Field Festival track & field meet Friday night. Pelfrey won the pole vault with a leap of 11 feet, six inches; while Riley hit personal records in each of the varsity discus and shot put.

 

Pelfrey, who was named among the field at next week's esteemed Arcadia Invitational, has now cleared 11 feet in seven straight meets in 2022, with five meet wins. She previously went 11-10 at the Halden Invitational to move into second in school history, and still looks to become just the second Troubadour to break the 12-foot barrier.

 

Riley finished third in the shot put with a throw of 91-6.5, while her 29-4.75 mark in the shot put was good for fifth among the field of 27 finishers.

 

SFHS's Donna Valizadeh placed second behind Pelfrey in the pole vault at 9-6, while Ava Forte led the Troubie JV squad with her third-place leap of 7-6. Among the JV throwers, Elise Blomquist led a St. Francis trio in each of the shot (26-9) and discus (72-0.5).

 

Friday's meet at GBHS kicked off a relatively quiet weekend for the St. Francis track & field program, which appeared in full force at the Delta League center meet in Davis on Wednesday. A contingent of sprinters and hurdlers will compete at Bella Vista's Speed Festival Saturday starting at 9 a.m.
