ELK GROVE, Calif. – Juniors Bianca Ariza and Samantha Sonntag defeated top-seeded Michella Gunther/Mel McConnell of Davis 6-2, 6-2 to capture the Delta League Doubles title and earn a berth in the Sac-Joaquin Section Doubles tournament on Nov. 1-2.
Ariza and Sonntag were the No. 2 seed rolled through the draw without dropping a set, defeating the team of Maru Marquez/Danielle Bollinger of Davis in the first round 6-1, 6-4. They defeated Marie Thai/Emily Chau of Franklin in the quarterfinals 6-2, 6-0 and then dispatched third-seeded Athena Wilson/Sara Alshaer of Cosumes Oaks in the semifinals.
Julia Pan/Maggie Warren of Davis won the third-place match to earn the final berth into the section tournament.
