PALO ALTO, Calif. – Sophomore Sophia Gorona scored eight goals to pace St. Francis to a 14-10 win over Castilleja Saturday at Gunn High School. It completed a perfect weekend for the team as they improved to 6-0 on the season after a 14-4 win over Gunn on Friday.
St. Francis built a 9-5 lead in the first half as junior Grace Barger and junior Judy Cates scored multiple goals. Gorona scored her first at the 18:47 mark and added two more before the end of the half.
In the second half Castilleja fought hard to get back in the game but Gorona put the game away with five goals. Cates had nine draw controls in the game to help secure the win.
Senior Jade Borg got the team started on Friday with the first two goals. Barger scored three times and Judy Cates added two goals with Maggie Price and Gorona scored as part of a 10 goal half.
Barger and Borg finished with four goals each with Cates scoring three and Gorona adding two.
Danny Skeoch had eight saves and allowed just four goals in the game for the Troubies. Mackenzie Le, Emma Garvey and Barger had multiple ground balls with Gorona recording seven draw controls. Jade Borg forced two turnovers to lead the team.
St. Francis plays at Rio Americano on Thursday at 4 p.m.
