Sophia Gorona is in her second season on the varsity. Sophia has been playing lacrosse since the fourth grade. She scored 37 goals and had 20 assists as a freshman. She like to ride horses in free time, including her horse Riffle, who lives in Idaho. She works in her aunt's restaurant, My Father's Place, over the summer.
How excited are you for the prospects of the season?
"I am really excited. It is looking good. We have a lot of new people this year so there are a lot of changes. But it is finally coming together. The first few games are going to be finding out what we need to work on for the rest of the season."
What was your season with the basketball program like?
"It was a lot of fun. They were very welcoming because I had never played basketball before. I was really nervous because most of them had played freshman year together. But they taught me anything I had questions about."
How did it help you prepare for lacrosse season?
"It helped me with my defense and my defensive sliding. I used different muscles basketball."
What did you learn from your successful freshman year?
"I learned to never be satisfied. You are not going to get better that way and you have to push for more."
What was it like having a big role as a freshman?
"It was important for me to step up as leader. As a freshman, Coach told me my age did not matter and my voice needed to be heard. It was a big point for me."
What do you love about lacrosse?
"I look forward to practice all day and game day is the best day. I love getting to play with my teammates and the game itself."
