Get to Know: Lacrosse's #22 Jade Borg

Get to Know: Lacrosse's #22 Jade Borg
Jade Borg has been a four-year member of the St. Francis lacrosse program. She has scored 109 goals over 49 games in her first three seasons. She is the President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee this year. She is still awaiting her college decision but hopes to study entrepreneurship/finance.

How is senior season?
"I think this is one of the most fun seasons yet. We started off with low numbers and did not know if we would have enough for a team. The players that have shown up are some of the best people we have had both skill-wise and personality-wise. It is a lot of fun."

What has been your favorite part of being in the lacrosse program?
"My favorite part has been working on my leadership skills. I have been on the varsity since freshman year. It has been (a process) stepping up early as a leader and building on those skills. As one of the three seasons, you get work on those skills every day."

How have you got better over your four seasons?
"I have got better at communicating. My first two seasons I had trouble articulating what I wanted to say. There was a lot screaming through my mouth guard. Now when I talk it is with purpose and direction so people can understand and know what to do."

What was the highlight of the Girls and Women in Sports Day event hosted by SAAC?
"My highlight was getting to talk to the parents and the young athletes. They are so hopeful to continue their sports in the future. As an athlete since the third grade, it was nice to see the girls want to come out and try different things."

What has you learned from your experience on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC)?
"You get a different understanding of how the different sports operate. There are unique issues that come up with different sports and how to handle them. I know about lacrosse, it has been eye-opening hearing perspectives from student-athletes from other sports. You can bring those back to your team."

What are your individual goals for this season?
"My individual are to keep up with my communication with the team and provide an inclusive atmosphere no matter their skill level that they feel welcome."

What are you looking forward to about this weekend's games?
"Playing a home game, the girls always feel more comfortable. You know your surroundings and can focus on your play."
