St. Francis places ninth at CIF-SJS Masters tourney

STOCKTON, Calif. – Freshman Arden Han-Wei fired a 2-over-par 74 while junior Olivia Lee finished seven strokes back from Han-Wei at 81, leading St. Francis to a team total of 442 strokes at the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Tournament at the Reserve at Spanos Park Monday. The Troubadours finished ninth in the tournament.

Han-Wei finished in a sizable tie for 15th place in a field that featured 12 total teams plus 32 individual qualifiers. The top three teams plus four individual at-large players advanced to the CIF NorCal Championships in Berkeley. Pleasant Grove (363), Granite Bay (374) and Lodi (380) claimed those top three places, while Rodriguez' Nikki Chindavong (68), Mountain House's Ashley Xu (69), Folsom's Saanyi Kotti (69) and El Capitan's Esther Sheu (70) claimed the individual qualifiers.

Completing the St. Francis team scoring were senior Julia Geer at 85, senior Chelsea McMahon at 99 and junior Aja Garcia at 103. Senior Sophia Edwards posted the Troubies' No. 6 score with a 107.

Granite Bay's Ellie Bushnell was the individual medalist with a 6-under 66 total, with Pleasant Grove's Gianna Singh a stroke behind at 67.

St. Francis advanced to Monday's tourney by virtue of its sixth-place finish at the CIF-SJS Division I tournament at Timber Creek six days earlier.

The Masters championship also closes out the prep careers for seniors Edwards, Geer and McMahon, part of a five-person graduating class alongside Brooklyn Carrero and Sydney Hurter. The 2022 season featured five dual meet wins, a runner-up finish at the first Delta League center tourney, and two All-League honorees in Geer and Han-Wei.
