Golfers top Davis in Senior Day dual match

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Freshman Arden Han-Wei led all players with an even-par 36 while St. Francis celebrated its senior class with an 11-stroke team victory over Davis in a Delta League girls' golf dual match at Haggin Oaks Wednesday afternoon. The Troubadours scored 208 strokes to the Blue Devils' 219 for their third straight dual win.

Head coach Kelli Corlett honored five seniors following the match: Brooklyn Carrero, Sophia Edwards (in absentia), Julia Geer, Sydney Hurter and Chelsea McMahon. Ordinarily, the team holds its Senior Day ceremony on the final home event, but this year's October 12 opponent, Elk Grove, does not field a complete team.

The four present seniors each earned lineup slots: Geer carded a 5-over 41, Hurter finished with a 43, McMahon turned in a 45, and Carrero finished with a 57. Han-Wei and Aja Garcia were the lone non-seniors in the lineup, with Garcia matching Hurter's 43.

Han-Wei stormed out of the gates with birdie 3s on the first and second holes. On 2, she landed a second-shot pitch just inches from the pin for the tap-in birdie. She now has a nine-hole stroke average of 35.2, having shot a 66 in the 18-hole center tourney on September 12, a 36 against Sheldon two days later, and a 38 at Franklin on Monday.

Davis was led by Alessandra Trask, who scored a 2-over 38. Saera Ojha shot a 42.

Wednesday's dual is the second of three Delta League duals for the week, with St. Francis visiting Emerald Lakes to take on Cosumnes Oaks on Thursday. This is the rescheduling of a match originally slated for September 7, but postponed due to the heat wave earlier in the month.
