Troubies place second in Delta League center tourney No. 1

Troubies place second in Delta League center tourney No. 1

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Freshman Arden Han-Wei finished with a team-leading 6-under-par 66 while senior Julia Geer's on the opening hole kicked off a 72 for the day, leading St. Francis to a second-place total of 403 strokes in the first of three Delta League girls' golf center tournaments at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex Monday afternoon.

Pleasant Grove won the event with a 332-stroke total, with all five scoring finishers at under par. Davis placed third with 444, just ahead of Franklin's 449, while Sheldon took fifth with a 530 sum. Cosumnes Oaks only fielded four players and thus did not compile a team total. The center tourneys represent the lone 18-hole competitions on the regular-season schedule, and figure heavily into final Delta League standings and Sac-Joaquin Section qualifications.

Han-Wei, formerly of the Seattle suburb of Bellevue, Wash., birded holes 1, 4, 7 and 9 to card a 4-under 32 on the front nine, then continued her clean sheet on the back nine with birdies on 13 and 15. She placed third overall in the tournament, behind the PG pair of Gianna Smith and Alaythia Hinds, each of whom totaled 8-under 64s.

Geer holed out from 43 yards along the left side of the green on the par-4 first hole. The El Macero Country Club standout then followed with a birdie 3 on the second, with a short pitch leaving her with a tap-in below the pin. She proceeded to total a 34 out and a 38 in for an even-par 72 overall, sixth among the individual field.

Olivia Lee added an 85, Aja Garcia and Chelsea McMahon turned in matching 90s, and Sophia Edwards tallied a personal-best 91 to round out the St. Francis delegation.

The Troubadours return to action in less than 48 hours with a dual matchup with Sheldon on Wednesday. The two teams tee off at 3 p.m., again at Haggin Oaks.
